Call of Duty has been accused of dropping operator bundles that give an unfair advantage to gamers who are willing to pay for them. These bundles include operator skins that make it hard for the average player to see them in certain backdrops. They are specifically used in competitive play matches that make this game mode a very toxic environment. Gamers have dubbed these bundles as “Pay to Win”.
Just recently Call of Duty dropped some new bundles that give advantages in their DMZ game mode. Gamers are again in an uproar about these bundles. But for me, I have a different opinion on these particular bundles.

First off I believe some of these gamers take gaming too seriously. I get that you’re proud of your 80hr grind to get a cool skin or some other achievement. But some of us and I mean me in this instance, don’t have 80hrs to grind for that. Sometimes I think that some of these gamers lives completely revolve around what happens in the digital space and any thing that would ruin its validity is heresy. Something like “Pay to Win” bundles. When it comes to strictly competitive game modes I’m definitely not for paid bundles that give an unfair advantages to players but DMZ is more of a PvE type of game play. For the most part you can totally choose to not engage with other players and just achieve your mission goals and extract out.

These recent bundles don’t give you an advantage over the other players, they’re more like a cheat code to get more out of your time in game or get you back into the game with your favorite weapon faster. If you’ve played this game mode you know just how frustrating it is when you loose all your stuff when you die. And then you have to wait until your favorite gun “cools down” or have you go in with a different weapon. This particular mechanic made me stop playing this game mode all together. You can spend up to 25mins in a match and potentially come out with nothing. Me and my friends don’t have the time for all that. At least in other game modes you get some type of reward even of you loose a match.

I personally feel these types of bundles are essential for this game mode in order to attract more players to it and to help retain its current player base. For someone like me, a gamer with other obligations, I don’t have a lot of time to game so I’d be willing to pay to get some type of in game advantage over NPCs.
So for competition game modes I really don’t like the “Pay to Win” bundles I feel you should win by either your skill or the teamwork of the team you are on. When it comes to PvE I’d be willing to use money to get some type of advantage against NPCs. I will end this blog by saying that as I’ve gotten older I don’t see the value in micro-transactions or digital content anymore because once the next game comes out you lose everything you bought. So I’ve either stopped buying additional digital content or have completely stopped playing games with them all together.
