My Journey to becoming a police officer Part 1:

|

Hi,

This is my first blog in my journey to become a police officer. This was always a dream since I was younger but I let everyone else and my own self doubt control my own narrative, Being worried I couldn’t do it or too concerned about what other people would think with the growing hatred towards the police, even though all I wanted was to just make a difference, change that narrative and get people to believe in us again. Then after talking it over my fiancé and deciding together that it was something I needed to do to be truly happy with my life and my journey I decided to no longer let what other people might think destroy my dream, so I took that first step and applied to the chandler police force in Arizona, at 34 years old and a female I knew I was going to have to put in more effort to prove to some that I belonged but I was ready to take on that challenge, and I couldn’t have been more proud of myself for taking this step. My Next Step Was getting a call from a recruiter approving my application, and moving onto the written test, which scared me to death.

I had been studying online, and I purchased some books from How2be. It was really helpful to have practice papers. I was studying Maps, Math, English, how to accurately remember information people give you, and write a report about it later. conversions, and different scenario videos. Then the day came test day! February 11, 2023 I was SO Nervous, but I got a good night sleep and remembered exactly what me and my fiancé talked about you know this material just get it done take a breath don’t rush and remember you got this! We found out the scores at the end of the test and I couldn’t have been happier, having some of the highest scores ever recorded for the past 6 years on both the reading and writing portion, and giving myself more opportunities then I ever even dreamed about. The next step was the Personal History (background check) I wasn’t really worried about that per say, but its still another hurdle I had to get thru and it can take weeks sometimes and I really wanted to make sure I finished on time to get into the March 21st Physical aptitude test!

A golden opportunity emerged with an event called coffee and a cop, my fiancé saw online, and we both knew it would be a great opportunity to get to know the people I’m trying to get in with, and see how they did it, better explain the process, get advice, feedback and get your face out there. it was a blast I learned tips and tricks met some of the officers face to face, and the next day I got my invitation that my background was approved and to be ready for my physical aptitude test and oral boards on March 21st!

Overall my fitness is not the best. I started early to give myself a head start and to ensure I can be the fittest version of myself but I wasn’t always the best at keeping up with it but I’m working on it. I think preparation is key and crucial in improving cardiovascular fitness, it does not happen overnight, but things will only get better

I am also working at my job as I need money. I am getting married soon so I have that going on in my life, a police job would help me so much and give me the confidence.

I do running outside 5 days a week. 1.5 miles, Practicing my weights to build strength in my upper body as well, the Physical test is March 21st along with my oral boards, here’s to achieving the next part of my goals! to be continued onto Part 2 after the boards!

Remember to never give up on your dreams
