Incubus: Live

|

I’ve seen quite a few concerts in my day, starting when I was a kid and continuing on into the years. I won’t give away my age exactly, but it’s been quite a journey. Last night I got to add a new band to the list of bands that I’ve seen (and can actually remember), Incubus.

Opening up for Incubus was Coheed and Cambria, which is one of my personal favorite bands, and the reason I got a notification for this show. As always they put on an amazing show and even though I’ve seen them 3 times now I would probably go to one a year as long as they keep touring, but this blog is about Incubus. So I’ve always liked Incubus, but I’ve never been a super fan or even bought an album of theirs. I say this to preface that mostly the music I’ve ever heard by them was what they played on the radio in the earlier years when I actually listened to the radio. Of course, we didn’t have Spotify or Pandora back then so if we wanted to listen to music it was either buy the album or listen to the radio.

Most of the songs they played I did know though. There were a few I didn’t, but it didn’t really matter because they still sounded awesome, and just vibing off the people around me seemed to make up for that. They had a pretty awesome light show going on. It wasn’t over the top (which was good) but it definitely was enough to make you go “wow that is so cool”. I wasn’t quite as wild as when I saw Tom Petty, and I say that not to compare the awesomeness, but mainly to paint a picture for anyone who has been to a Tom Petty concert (rest his soul).

There were a couple times where they started playing cover songs. They didn’t play through the whole song, but just incorporated them into their own, which I thought was pretty awesome. Especially when at the end of ‘Wish You Were Here’ they started playing ‘Wish You Were Here’ by Pink Floyd. After that they acted like they were done, then came back to play a song I didn’t know and then ‘Drive’, probably one of their most well known songs.

All in all though I would definitely like to see Incubus again. They were probably top 3 shows that I’ve ever seen, and again, I’ve been to quite a few shows. It was definitely awesome, for me, to take a trip down memory lane with all the awesome songs that I’d heard over the years and hear some that I’d never heard before too. Now to start planning my next concert adventure!
